Sugoi RS Pro Bib Short – First Impressions
Aero Tech for the Average Cyclist
I recently received a Sugoi RS Pro Bib Short, along with some other items from their RS collection including a jersey and jacket, from the Canadian company to review. The RS collection, which stands for Race System, sits in the middle of Sugoi’s range, just below their top of the line RSE collection, and is aimed at the avid cyclist looking for quality clothing. For more visit Sugoi’s website.
Here are some of my first impressions of the Sugoi RS Pro Bib Short.
The Sugoi RS Pro Bib Short is a light weight short with mesh side panels and straps for good ventilation. It is constructed from Sugoi’s Ultra Aero fabric and uses 10 panels to provide a snug fit with flat seams to further reduce drag. A couple Sugoi logos provide some reflective details to the RS Pro Bib Short and a small pocket on the back provides some extra, concealed storage.
You can’t go wrong with the simple black design with white straps. Just like every girl needs a little black dress, every cyclist needs a go to pair of black shorts that goes with every jersey.
The aero fit of the Sugoi RS Pro Bib Short continues to the leg openings which incorporate silicone tape to prevent slipping and an aero band for a smoother fit. There was not much stretch to the aero band and I found the leg openings of the Sugoi RS Pro Bib Short to be extremely tight when I first put them on. The tightness made it difficult to get the shorts sit properly in the groin because it was hard to get them high enough up my thighs. Hopefully after some use the aero band will break in a bit and provide some more stretch.A Formula FX chamois provides the cushioning for the Sugoi RS Pro Bib Short which uses V-Control padding. Sugoi claims that it offers shock absorption and dampening superior to that of open-cell foam. The foam feels very dense which promises long lasting comfort on epic rides. The Sugoi RS Pro Bib Short’s Formula FX chamois features a perforated channel for ventilation and pressure relief.
The Sugoi RS Pro Bib Short is a pro fit with an aero design, so a snug fit through the leg is desired but the leg opening was too tight for me. Going up a size may solve this issue but would require compromising on the fit through the thighs. As always, its a good idea to try a product before you buy. So skip your regular online retailer and head to your local Sugoi dealer if you are considering the Sugoi RS Pro Bib Short.
