Loaded Xlite Ti Stem Review

The Xlite Ti stem is Loaded’s attempt at making the lightest stem in the industry.  Designed for mountain biking, the Loaded Xlite Ti stem is strong enough for off road use but light enough (and available in lengths suitable for) road bikes.

Constructed from alloy rather than carbon, Loaded machined the Xlite Ti stem down so that there was no extra material in order to shave off every gram.  Throw in a carbon face plate and titanium bolts (thus the Ti in the name) and you have one light stem.  The claimed weight for the Loaded Xlite Ti stem is 99 grams (90mm) while the 120mm stem I tested tipped the scales at 115 grams.loaded xlite ti stem

With a weight comparable to many carbon stems on the market but at almost half the price (MSRP $99.99 USD), the Loaded Xlite Ti stem is a good choice for any weight weenies out there.

It also has to be said that the Loaded Xlite Ti stem is one of the most attractive stems on the market.  Its minimalist, machined looks are reminiscent of the ever popular and classy products from Thomson meaning the Loaded Xlite Ti stem is a great way to spruce up any bike.loaded xlite ti stem

Loaded machined away as much material as they could get away with on the Xlite Ti stem in order to save every gram possible.  Unfortunately, that resulted in a stem with a lot of flex especially when cranking on the bars during out of the saddle efforts.  Stretching the Loaded Xlite Ti stem out to 120mm certainly doesn’t help but stiffness is normally a sacrifice one has to make in the pursuit of ultra light weight.

The Loaded Xlite Ti stem is a stem for feather weight climbers looking to save every gram not bulky sprinters wanting to put the power down.  Although a little too flexy for this reviewer’s liking, with a weight comparable to many carbon stems, an affordable price, and classy looks, the Loaded Xlite Ti stem is a good option for anyone looking to shave off a couple grams from their bike.
